Voice Therapy for Transgender Clients

View Comments (0)Print ArticleEmail Article

Catering specifically to the male-to-female (MtF) transgendered population, the clinic at the College of St. Rose, in Albany, NY, attracts clients who live over an hour away.

Jack Pickering, PhD, CCC-SLP, associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the college initially was surprised by the willingness and motivation of clients to travel a significant distance to the clinic. "There just aren't a lot of services available," he said. "Voice disorders comprise a relatively small subspecialty in speech-language pathology, and working with transsexuals is an even smaller population within that subspecialty."
