Speech Support
The Stroke Comeback Center, Vienna, VA, teams up with SpeakinMotion to develop a mobile app that brings Video Assisted Speech Technology (VAST) to speech-impaired people nationwide.
Video Produced by ADVANCE
Instead of looking at photos to deliver scripts, one patient at the Stroke Comeback Center, Vienna, VA, wanted to videotape his speech therapy sessions to practice his scripts at home. His ability to retrieve the phonemes improved, and he was able to speak more fluently.
Darlene Williamson, MA, CCC-SLP, founder/executive director of the Center, and colleagues began wondering whether other patients could benefit from video modeling with scripts. The success of others has led to the technique being molded into a mobile app for patients with apraxia nationwide to improve their speech and build their confidence.
