Progressus Therapy, a provider of special education solutions to school districts and communities around the country, has appointed Gene Clark, PhD, as its new CEO and Janet Knupp as its new president. They will be joining a leadership team that includes independent directors Phil Handy, Rudy Crew, EdD, Dennis Archer and Wayne Lowell.
In addition, Sterling Partners has made an additional investment in the company with a goal to grow the strong financial position of Progressus and expand its role as one of the largest providers of special education solutions in the United States.
"Progressus has a long history of partnering with school districts and communities to transform their special education programs, produce meaningful cost savings, and deliver exceptional results to the students who need it the most," said Steven Taslitz, chair and senior managing director of Sterling Partners and a member of the Progressus Board of Directors. "We have worked with Gene in his role as a dean in the InfiLaw System, and we are thrilled to be working with him again. He and Janet have proven track records of building and growing organizations in the education sector. Their business acumen and deep understanding of the space will be a great asset to Progressus' future growth."
Dr. Clark has a unique blend of leadership experience and a long track record of business success achieved over a 40-year career. Over the past five years he served as dean and CEO of Phoenix School of Law and the Charlotte School of Law. He has held leadership roles at many other academic institutions and established government/university partnerships.
A former special education teacher, Knupp brings more than 20 years of experience leading and growing education organizations, from start-ups to mature companies, and has established a national reputation for excellence in K-12 education. As founding president and CEO of the Chicago Public Education Fund, she helped attract significant private investment to develop and implement empowering educational programs in the Chicago Public School system.
"Janet, the board and I all share Progressus' passion for delivering exceptional results to the students who need it the most," said Dr. Clark. "I have had the pleasure of working with some of my new colleagues before, and I am very excited to be a part of this team as we continue to build on Progressus' core, industry-leading practice."
The board members include Handy, CEO of Strategic Industries who previously chaired the Florida State Board of Education and was vice chair of the National Board of Education Sciences; Dr. Crew, former superintendent of Miami Public Schools and chancellor of New York City Public Schools; Archer, a former special education teacher who served as mayor of Detroit and president of the American Bar Association; and Lowell, who previously was executive vice president and CFO at PacifiCare Health Systems.
