The Common Core Meets Charlotte Cavatica
At 4 p.m. ET on Thursday, May 23, 2013, Maryellen Rooney Moreau, MEd, CCC-SLP, will present "The Common Core meets Charlotte Cavatica: Strengthening the Web of Connections Between Narrative & Information Text Using Children's Books."
Reading the title of this webinar one might be curious; who is Charlotte Cavatica? This is the name given to one of the main characters in "Charlotte's Web" by E.B. White. "Charlotte's Web" is a read-aloud exemplar text in Appendix B. of the CCSS for grade 2.
Participants will be learn about:
- Using a chapter book with literary & informational standards from the CCSS for grades K-5
- Locating text types and modeling narrative organization
- Perspective taking and problem solving in chapter books
- All seven types of expository text and relating information text on the topic of spiders
- Mapping the connections between narrative and information (expository) text
- Using cohesive ties for complex sentence development
