Past Tense Verbs in Action

View Comments (0)Print ArticleEmail Article

During a recent therapy session, I was working with a 4-year-old boy on trying to get him to produce past tense "ed" verbs.  We were playing with toy animals and I was using the focused stimulation technique, talking about what the animals did (e.g., the lion jumped, the giraffe walked, the zebra kissed the tiger, etc.).

He suddenly said, "Oops!" and looked up at me.  I said, "What happened?" and he replied, "I farted!"  We both laughed and later after telling a co-worker the story, she replied, "Hooray for generalization?"
